Rain On Tent
A tent is a drum head. Rain that would click on a windowpane spreads across the stretched fabric instead, so this recording thumps where the others patter — it has a body no other rain here comes close to, and it gives up the airy top in exchange. Nothing spikes: each drop is smeared over the whole surface, leaving dense, even drumming rather than distinct hits. It arrives from both sides and above, which is a fair account of lying inside a tent.

What a stretched skin does to rain
Fabric under tension answers at its own low pitch rather than passing a drop straight through. That is why this is the darkest of the four rains added here, and the only one with weight in it. Rain on Grass, recorded under open sky, keeps the fine top of every splash and none of the bottom. Same weather, opposite surfaces.
The level is flatter here than in any of the other three. Individual drops barely register as events, because the surface spreads each impact out before it reaches you. What is left is continuous drumming, 32 seconds to the loop.
Wide, and what to do with it
The stereo image runs wider than a standard stereo pair, and this is one of the few recordings here that genuinely surrounds a listener on headphones. Only Rain on Grass spreads further. Rain comes at you from the sides rather than from a point in front of you.
For masking it is the most complete rain in the set, carrying usable sound low, middle and high, so it will do more about traffic than the brighter rains manage.
