Rain On Grass
Rain on Grass is rain landing on something that absorbs it. Nothing rebounds, so there are no clicks and no distinct drops — fine, even hiss with the top of every splash left intact. It is also the widest recording in this set, spreading to both sides of you instead of sitting in front. No rumble under it and no wind in it: one texture, delivered evenly, 32 seconds at a time.

What soft ground does to rain
A hard surface returns the impact of a drop as a click. Grass and soil take it. Nothing separates from the wash anywhere in the file and the level stays close to its average throughout, against the same weather hitting a window, where a clear strike lands every couple of seconds. Nothing stands between the microphone and the sky either, so the fine top of each splash survives, and this is the airiest of the four rain recordings added here.
What it does not have is weight. No traffic bed underneath, no weather behind it. If you want rain with body in it, the tent recording is the one.
The widest file in the set
The stereo image is wider than a normal stereo pair, and it shows. The rain occupies the space to both sides instead of arriving from a point ahead. On headphones the effect is strong, and some people find it too enveloping for close reading; on speakers it fills a room without needing volume. Only Rain on Tent comes near it, and every other water, weather and fire file added here is narrower by a distance.
For masking, the working range is speech consonants and keyboard clicks, which the hiss covers well. It does nothing for low sounds. Brown noise underneath in the mixer covers what the rain misses. To compare the site's other rain files, start with Rain or open the sound library index.
Frequently asked questions
Why are there no distinct drop sounds?
Soft ground absorbs the impact instead of returning it, so nothing separates from the wash and the level stays close to its average throughout.
Is this the brightest rain on the site?
Summer Rain sits a shade higher overall, but this file has more of the very top of the spectrum than any other rain in the set, which is what gives it that airy hiss.
How wide is the stereo image?
Wider than a standard stereo pair, and the widest of the recordings added here. The rain spreads to both sides rather than staying centred.
Are these rain sounds good for sleeping?
The file is even, has no separable events and no speech, which are the qualities that make a sound easy to ignore over hours. Whether it suits you is worth testing awake first.
