Two files called grey, sharing nothing else
Grey Mist Atmosphere has the same colour in its name and is its opposite in every other way: dark, heavy at the bottom, nothing on top. This one is nothing but top. The distance between them is wider than between most differently named files on the site.
Grey noise proper is white noise weighted so that every part of the range sounds equally loud, and that is what the grey noise generator makes live in your browser. Neither of these two is that. They are fixed 32-second recordings with shapes of their own, and they loop where the generator does not.
Headphones yes, all night no
The two channels go their own way here, so this is one of the few files that genuinely changes on headphones: it opens out rather than staying in the middle of your head. Set against the brown and white recordings, which collapse to a point, the difference is not subtle.
The caution is duration. Most of it sits in the range the ear is most sensitive to, which is also the range where tiredness builds without announcing itself. It is easy to set this louder than you would set a warm file and not notice until an hour in, so for overnight something lower is the safer default.
