Why the name does not match the file
A binaural beat needs each ear to receive a different tone. Here the two channels carry the same content, differing by well under a hertz where the name promises five, and following the phase between them gives a slow wander rather than a steady beat. The file does not pulse at 5 Hz either — its strongest swelling is far slower than that, and at five there is nothing. Both tests have to fail for the name to be wrong, and both fail.
For contrast, the Schumann Fundamental file on this site is a genuine binaural pair: a different tone in each ear, well apart, pulsing at exactly the 7.83 Hz its name claims. What it is worth playing for
Taken as a drone it has real character. A deep hum holds the bottom, a handful of quieter tones sit above it, and the whole file is tuned about a quarter-tone flat of concert pitch — enough to give it an unmoored quality on its own, and enough that it will not sit inside anything tuned normally. It spreads wide across the stereo image and stops dead before it reaches the treble, which is why nothing in it ever sounds bright.
That combination suits sleep and long background use better than work: no events, no rhythm and no top end to catch the ear.
